Since its launch in July 2008 the Trust has been busy with 35 donations made to causes suggested by Produce World colleagues totaling over £10,000. Recipients of Growing Trust support have been extremely varied ranging from local community projects to sponsored events by colleagues in aid of larger charities. Here are a few examples of who the Trust has helped and how :
The chart shows where and how the money was spent. 75% of donations were made to organizations or charities operating in the Trust's chosen focus sectors - education, environment, agriculture and local communities - while 82% of funds were dispersed in the East of England. Perhaps the most exciting Growing Trust activity last year was the volunteering day at RB Organic which saw over a dozen colleagues from RB and Produce World working with the local charity Froglife to complete the ponds project (see case study on next page). The Trust supported the day by buying the dipping platform which the volunteers then built and 'installed' and providing the lunch.
At the Food and Drink iNet Innovation Awards 2009, held in Leicester on Tuesday 17th November, the Food Processing Faraday Award for Most Innovative Large Food and Drink Manufacturer went to Marshalls (part of the Produce World Group), Butterwick, Boston, for the development of bellaverdeŽ sweet stem broccoli, that was launched in July 2009, and created in conjunction with Seminis.
Produce World were pleased to be part of LEAF's 18th birthday celebrations.
