Environmental Stewardship - Our Commitment

With growing concerns over the sustainability of food production, we understand that we have a role to play in protecting our environment. We are determined to effectively manage our business activities to ensure we have a positive environmental impact and are currently in the early stages of establishing an environmental management programme for our operational sites.

The Produce World Business Support Centre and the Roots & Potato Division incorporating Isleham Fresh Produce, RB Organic and Solanum Ltd have successfully been registered to the internationally recognised environmental standard ISO-14001. Certification to the standard was granted by NQA (a leading assessment, verification and certification body accredited by UKAS). NQA conducted audits of the businesses which involved detailed analysis of our environment management documentation, processes, procedures and practical observations of the site.

Our Environmental Management System (EMS) is the first ever group management system to be accredited. Produce World is working towards the accreditation of its remaining UK businesses, Rustler Produce Ltd and Marshalls Bros., both of which have already begun to implement an environmental strategy.

Environmental Stewardship is becoming firmly embedded within the Produce World culture and the group business strategy. The ISO-14001 standard provided a framework for our EMS to sit within. It has encouraged a greater focus on key environmental aspects, legal compliance and improved environmental and business performance.

Marshalls work closely with non governmental organisations such as LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) and FWAG (Farming Wildlife Advisory Group) to develop our Integrated Crop Management approach carefully balancing environmental concerns with the economic production of high quality vegetable crops. Assured Produce, LEAF marque and Soil Association audits are conducted annually to ensure our commitment and compliance to sustainable production. Within our operations the management of waste is being reviewed to improve our waste segregation & reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill.
