Richmond 1898

  • 1898 Harry & Percy Burgess begin growing vegetables in Peterborough Fens and running a fruit & vegetable shop in Richmond, London.
  • 1946 Russell Burgess Ltd established to pack and market fruit & vegetables.
  • 1981 Russell Burgess start supplying first multiple customer with potatoes and root vegetables.
  • 1997 Rustler Produce Ltd formed a joint venture with Whitworth Onion Growers (Alliums).
  • 2000 Russell Burgess (Potatoes) merges with Sutton Bridge Ltd to form Solanum Ltd.
  • 2000 Russell Burgess (Vegetables) merges with Isleham Carrot Growers - to form Isleham Fresh Produce Ltd and a further division dealing with organically grown produce, RB Organic Ltd.
  • 2003 Companies merge to create Produce World Ltd.
  • 2004 Produce World Ltd set up a new Joint Venture, Frupac (Yaxley) Ltd.
  • 2006 Produce World acquired British & Brazilian Produce Ltd.
  • 2007 British & Brazilian merges with Frupac - the latter name was discontinued.
  • 2008 Produce World Ltd acquires Marshalls Holdings Ltd, a group of companies that includes Marshall Bros (Butterwick) Ltd and a 76% holding in Agromark SA.
  • 2009 Produce World disposes of its interests in British & Brazilian Produce Ltd to AG Thames Holdings Ltd.

Food and Drink iNet Innovation Award Winners 2009

At the Food and Drink iNet Innovation Awards 2009, held in Leicester on Tuesday 17th November, the Food Processing Faraday Award for Most Innovative Large Food and Drink Manufacturer went to Marshalls (part of the Produce World Group), Butterwick, Boston, for the development of bellaverde® sweet stem broccoli, that was launched in July 2009, and created in conjunction with Seminis.
