Produce World - an Award Winning Business
Businesses from across the East of England gathered at the Bedford Lodge Hotel, Newmarket, on 29th November 2007 to celebrate the successes of the Towards 2010 programme.
The £4m EEDA-EU financed 'Towards 2010' project was aimed at seven priority sectors in the region, one of which was food and drink manufacturing. Food East represented the industry on 2010's steering group and dealt with the applications for food companies interested in receiving training grants. Over £500,000 was earmarked for the food and drink sector, with a minimum 50% grant available for individual training courses for successful applications.
Over 90 people attended the lunch and awards ceremony, which was hosted by George Kieffer, Deputy Chairman, EEDA & Non Executive Director, ExDRA. Awards were presented to businesses that had demonstrated a highly effective or innovative use of training in their respective business sector. Produce World, who have received approximately £23,000 worth of funding, were awarded with "The Best Use of a Training Grant" Award for the Food & Drink sector.
Louise Piggott (Group Development Manager) who accepted the Award with Moira Trafford, (Group HR Director), said "We thoroughly enjoyed the event and were delighted to accept the award". She then added, "The Towards 2010 initiative has been an excellent achievement that has allowed further and faster development of our employees.
Investment in our people has been the lodestone of our people management culture for the past few years. Produce World recognises that this approach reduces staff turnover, improves morale and makes the business successful. A significant number of employees from all levels of the business have directly benefited from the funding by attending a diverse range of courses".
Produce World have taken a significant step forward in promoting their learning culture. By developing their staff to reach their full potential they are building an even more successful business – staff remain motivated through increased job satisfaction and personal achievement.
