Produce World achieve ISO 14001

The Produce World Business Support Centre and the Roots & Potato Division incorporating Isleham Fresh Produce, RB Organic and Solanum Ltd have successfully been registered to the internationally recognised environmental standard ISO-14001. This was a fantastic achievement for all-Well done to all involved!!!

In January 2008 we began the implementation of a group wide Environmental Management System (EMS) in order to improve our environmental performance. We opted to progress down this route using the British Environmental Standard BS 8555, which provided the stepping stones to ISO 14001 (the internationally recognised environmental standard). The Produce World Business Support Centre and the businesses within the Roots & Potato Division successfully passed their Phase 3 BS 8555 audits in April 2009. The results of this audit demonstrated that the businesses were extremely advanced in their environmental strategy and management of their environmental aspects. The ISO-14001 audits were conducted by NQA (a leading assessment, verification and certification body accredited by UKAS) and took place across five days. The audits involved detailed analysis of our environment management documentation, processes, procedures and practical observations of the site. The results of the audits led to positive recommendation for registration to the standard with no non-conformances.

Environmental Stewardship has become firmly embedded within the Produce World culture and the group business strategy. The ISO-14001 standard provided a framework for our EMS to sit within. It has encouraged a greater focus on key environmental aspects, legal compliance and improved environmental and business performance.
