Produce World’s HR Director shortlisted for top award

David Frost, group HR Director at Produce World has been shortlisted for HR Director of the Year at this year’s HR Excellence Awards.

David is joined by fellow HR Directors from leading companies such as London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Morrisons and London Overground who have also made it onto the shortlist. The winner will be announced on June 25th at an awards ceremony.

The Produce World Group has been highly commended in all three categories it entered in the inaugural Waitrose Way Awards. Waitrose Way is the supermarket’s Corporate Social Responsibility strategy made up of four pillars, including championing British, treading lightly, treating people fairly and living well. The awards were designed to recognise Waitrose suppliers’ sustainability initiatives which ultimately enhance the food on the consumers’ plates.

Produce World, in partnership with Waitrose, has given a presentation on healthy eating to the Malcolm Sargent Primary School in Stamford this week. The local fresh produce company, a leading grower and supplier of high quality fresh vegetables, is taking part in the Waitrose Community Matters scheme, pledging its support to the supermarket who it has supplied for over 20 years.

Produce World RBO has received the highest grading for the third year running following a British Retail Consortium (BRC) unannounced audit.

Produce World Group’s organics specialist, which grows and supplies potatoes, carrots, swedes and parsnips, was the very first produce site in the industry to achieve the coveted A* status three years ago and has received the award each year since. In 2011, the group’s roots specialist, Produce World IFP, joined the handful of food businesses in the UK and across Europe which have achieved top marks. The 31 businesses with A* status account for just 1% of all food businesses that use the BRC accreditation system.

Farming Structure Confirmed for Produce World Marshalls

Produce World has confirmed the complete structure of its farming team at Produce World Marshalls. Following the appointment of Christian Maltby as Head of Farm Operations, Carolyn Coxe becomes the Planning and Agronomy Manager, and will be the ‘named grower’ on all Produce World Marshalls’ farming produce.

Carolyn has worked for Produce World for four years. Her role involves taking overall responsibility for all planning and agronomy functions and producing growing blueprints to ensure accurate forecasts throughout the year. Reporting into Carolyn is Matthew Sisson, who takes over responsibility for all the company’s Lincolnshire planting operations.

Area managers Gary Jaques, Steve Barai and Danny Nieuwenburg manage forecasting and harvesting, and are the local face of Produce World Marshalls to growing partners. They continuously ‘walk the crop’ and provide up-to date information on availability to the commercial team.

Produce World Marshalls uses a dedicated agronomy service to help it to maximise yield and quality in the field, and keep the team up-to-date with the latest innovations. Through major investments made in 2010, significant advances have been made in harvest cooling and crop conditioning systems both on farm and at its Butterwick site. Investment in the award-winning broccoli field factory has delivered 250,000 trays of pre- packed broccoli in field in the UK and Spain to date.

Produce World showcased at the BBC Good Food Winter Show at the NEC, from 23rd to 27th November, where over 80,000 visited the show. Produce Worlds stand attracted thousands of visitors with over 1,400 consumers entering the competition to win a John Deere pedal tractor.
