When Organic growing techniques were first espoused they were considered irrelevant. Today consumers' attitudes and their consumption patterns have changed this opinion dramatically. Nowadays food experts, nutritionists, restaurateurs and lifestyle gurus all endorse the consumption of organic food - and the reduction of farming's and the food processing industry's carbon footprints.
Today, everyone advocates go organic: grow organic.
In the 1990's help was definitely needed to reduce the use of pesticides; limit intensive farming; protect our wildlife and sustain the eco-balance in the countryside. The whole organic ethos has proved something of a long-term goal for farming rather than an ephemeral fad with consumers.
At RB Organic we could see that market forces in the early part of the 21st century were reflecting a major consumer movement towards the purchasing of organic good. Supermarkets too identified this burgeoning trend and were seeking our support to meet this growing demand.
This years event has been described by LEAF as “the best yet!”. Over 400 farmers across the country opened up and early reports indicate that nearly 150,000 members of the public visited a local farm on 1st June. A full report will be issued by LEAF later in the year…but in the meantime here is our very own Produce World report. As proud sponsors of the 2008 Open Farm Sunday event I would like to share with everyone the day’s successes, and give a great BIG thank you to everyone who took part…THANK YOU!.
