RB Organic History

RB Organic was formed in June 2000, when Burgess Vegetable Division merged with Isleham Carrot Growers. Two extremely experienced vegetable growers and retail high street suppliers had decided to pool their extensive resources to create a major player who would be able to deliver on economies of scale and expertise.

Out of this not inconsiderable marriage of two heavyweights in the marketplace grew IFP and RB Organic: RB Organic was the bridesmaid with a very colourful future looming on the horizon.

Their heritage had seen RB Organic formerly working with a group of 55 suppliers and experiencing an inconsistency of raw material quality. It could not continue: changes were implemented and research conducted to understand the market place in consequence - the Yaxley site root factory became a dedicated Organic unit.

Over £1.5 million was subsequently invested in washing and packing equipment. Grower Group formation then began streamlining knowledge, resources, and best practice procedures into a healthy consortium of 10 key players.

Product Quality Control and consistency then improved immediately and. RB Organic was now able to offer customers Class 1 organic carrots.

They subsequently moved organic potato production to Solanum - the potato experts within the Produce World group. RB Organic's UK grower group could not sustain all year round deliveries so they added overseas carrot growers to their portfolio in Spain, Austria, Italy, Israel and France.

By 2004 the company was processing and supplying 6,000 tonnes of washed and packed produce - and market demand still continued to grow. Over the next few years further investment ensued including the addition of new chilled storage and outloading facilities to Yaxley.

Organic vegetable box packaging, the use of biodegradable and compostable material have also been added into the supply chain for major retail customers. Not withstanding all this expansion, it must not be forgotten it would not have been achieved without the dedication of the professional team at RB Organic. Today the site has doubled to c100 full time employees and capacity has risen to 30,000 tonnes.
