Growers' crops are transported to our Yaxley processing centre where they are:
- Left in the haulier's transport trailer and washed upon arrival. Crops are treated very gently by spraying - to clean - with water jets.
- The product is then moved through a Jacuzzi system: air is gently pumped through the water to agitate the crop.
- Loose soil sinks to the bottom and the carrots float through to brush washers.
- Water cooling: RB Organic's Water Coolers MUST run slowly and be FULL of carrots. To be effective every crop must be in the cooler for a minimum of 20 minutes. Water flow must be at maximum to give a carrot crop its shelf life and minimise silvering.
- Sorting: optical grading is mechanised, but we still need to have staff in place as an additional back-up.
- Packing: our fully automated packing line can pre-pack carrots in any size or system customers specifically request. i.e. FFS, bags, stretch, shrink and over-wrap, plus boxes and bags from 50kg to 100kg. We endeavour to use - and encourage the use of - compostable and biodegradable packaging wherever possible.
